Homestead System Sulfur and Iron Removal System Series 3000What does a Sulfur and Iron System do?
Depending upon the type of media blend and valve used, a Sulfur and Iron System removes sulfur smells, and iron that stains clothes, tubs and sinks throughout your home. In addition, a Sulfur and Iron System can remove most chlorine, chloramine, taste, odor, some organics, and/or color from your drinking water.

Sulfur, iron, taste, odor, organics, and/or color are generally naturally occurring. These problems can come from either underground or surface water sources, whether it is your personal well, community well, public water utility well, or a private water utility well. A Sulfur and Iron System generates water with just-bottled quality throughout your home and at every tap.

How does a Sulfur and Iron System work?
A Sulfur and Iron System uses oxidation to change sulfur smells and dissolved iron so they are filterable and/or absorbable.  Depending upon the problems with your water, there are three different systems choices, Advanced Oxidizer, Extreme Oxidizer, or Ultimate Oxidizer.

How does an Advanced Oxidizer System work and what does it do?
A Homestead System Advanced Oxidizer incorporates patented valve technology and a proprietary blend of proven technologies incorporating food grade, catalytically activated carbon and catalytic sanitizing media. These systems are tailored to remove moderate levels of sulfur and odors, and low levels of iron from your drinking water.

Essential to these systems is patented multi-port valve technology, which draws air into the system during regeneration preparing the media for the next oxidation cycle.  These systems use the same carbon filtration technology used in virtually all beverage bottling plants as the accepted method to remove taste and odors from the water used in the production of bottled water, fruit juices, soda, sports drinks, beer, etc. In addition, the catalytic sanitizing media inhibits the growth of bacteria entering your home.

Depending upon the type of activated carbon used, a carbon filter removes chlorine, chloramine, taste, odor, some organics, and/or color from your drinking water.  The activated carbon used in Homestead Systems is from coconut shells that have been pyrolized and steam activated. The activation makes the carbon incredibly porous. Chlorine, chloramine, taste, odor, organics, and color are adsorbed into the pores of the activated carbon. Since the carbon acts as a very fine filter, after a period of time, the unit will backwash to remove any suspended materials from the bed. The catalytic sanitizing media inhibits the growth of bacteria in the system.

The Advanced Oxidizer is only available as a 3000 Series Homestead System.

How does an Extreme Oxidizer System work and what does it do?
A Homestead System Extreme Oxidizer incorporates patented valve technology and a proprietary blend of iron selective, natural zeolites, and catalytic sanitizing media. These systems are tailored to remove high levels of iron and low levels of sulfur and odors from your drinking water.

Essential to these systems is patented multi-port valve technology, which draws air into the system during regeneration preparing the media for the next oxidation cycle.  These systems use the same iron removal technology used in municipal water treatment plants.  In addition, the catalytic sanitizing media inhibits the growth of bacteria entering your home.

The Extreme Oxidizer is only available as a 3000 Series Homestead System.

How does an Ultimate Oxidizer System work and what does it do?
A Homestead System Ultimate Oxidizer incorporates proprietary valve technology and a proprietary blend of proven technologies incorporating food grade, catalytically activated carbon and catalytic sanitizing media. These systems are tailored to remove high levels of sulfur and odors, and moderate levels of iron from your drinking water.

Essential to these systems is a proprietary multi-port valve and a pump technology, which injects hydrogen peroxide into the system during the regeneration preparing the media for the next oxidation/adsorption cycle.

Since the carbon acts as a very fine filter, after a period of time, the unit will backwash to remove any suspended materials from the bed. The catalytic sanitizing media inhibits the growth of bacteria in the system.

The Ultimate Oxidizer is only available as a 3000 Series Homestead System.

How do I know if I need a Sulfur and Iron System?
Virtually any water supply will benefit from a Sulfur and Iron System. You will notice a dramatic improvement in taste and water clarity throughout your home. Unlike tests for chlorine, chloramine, and color, there are no definitive tests for taste and odor. Your senses will determine whether you want a treatment system to remove the taste and odor in your drinking water. There are tests for organics, but the tests can be extremely expensive.

Any special things I should know about a Homestead System Sulfur and Iron System?
Hydrogen peroxide will need to be added every 9-12 months

Every 2-3 years, your Homestead System dealer will need to change the activated carbon in your system.
